A Port Harcourt based non-governemntal organisation, Advocacy for Peace, Social Justice and Good Governance, has called on Rivers Youths to shun cultism, robbery and violence.
The secretary of the group, Mr. Josiah Phanuel Ebenezar, who made the call during a peace organised by the organisation in Port Harcourt at the weekend, noted that economic development would receive a boost if investors felt secure on the investments.
Mr Ebenezar, who is also a lawyer remarked that the present administration was building social infrastructure that would stimulate economic development but expressed regrets that such huge infrastructural development would not yield the much needed results in the absence of peace.
He commended the present administration for the amnesty programme which he noted had turned around the lives of many youths in the state. He said the Niger Delta youths have been on the news for the wrong reasons and expressed optimism that the current notoriety of the youths in the state would soon be replaced by a pleasantly surprising popularity.
According to him, while we support the Niger Delta’s agitation or a fair share of the oil wealth which nature has blessed it with, we sincerely advocate for a non-violent agitation that will be far-reaching.
He said the present agitation was predicated on the individual aggrandisement of the sponsors.
Mr Ebenezar called on the state government to lend the organisation a helping hand in their campaign for peace in the state.
