A’Ibom Establishes Syringe Factory
The Akwa Ibom State Government has said that the ongoing factory project in the state is expected to manufacture an estimated 400 million syringes, yearly.
Governor of the state, Udom Emmanuel who announced this during the recent Government House monthly prayer meeting, also said 10 indigenes of the state were being trained in different fields of engineering in Vienna on how to produce syringes and other medical consumables.
Emmanuel noted that South Africa is currently the largest producers of syringes with a capacity of 95 million syringes annually, stating, however, that the state had already put in place machinery to bring in eight production lines for its new factory, adding that the equipment were expected to arrive the state by the second week of May.
The governor urged stakeholders at the prayer meeting, with the theme “The Path to Greatness, to sensitise the people on the need to support government investments and desist from acts capable of driving away investors from their respective communities.
He lamented that the setback experienced in the state’s industrialization programme last year was as a result of foreign exchange crises, expressing optimism that there would be more employment opportunities for the people of the state before the third quarter of the year, “as the economy is picking up gradually”.
Emmanuel enjoined youths to desist from actions that would compel government to use force in executing projects in their areas, and warned that he would not hesitate to relocate such projects to other areas.
