Abiante’s Performance Excites Dogara
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has urged the people of Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency, in Rivers State, to return the member representing the constituency, Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante to the House of Representatives in 2019.
Dogara made the comment while flagging-off the distribution of relief materials donated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to Oyorokoto fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area.
He Speaker, who was represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Local Content, Hon Emmanuel Ekong, equally tasked both federal and Rivers State governments to develop Oyorokoto into tourism destination.
He explained that Abiante has, in a short while after winning his re-election in December, 2016, sponsored motions that seek to connect all 774 LGAs to national grid, revamp and encourage even distribution of police personnel and improvement of police infrastructure in Nigeria, and supported several other motions that will ensure food security in a recession, among others.
It would be recalled that Oyorokoto is arguably, the largest fishing settlement in West Africa, and plays host to many private fishing companies, just as it boasts a beautiful coastline for tourism.
In March last year, about 450 houses in that settlement were gutted by fire.
However, it took the intervention of Abiante, through the National Assembly, to secure relief materials to the survivors.
