The Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Prof Blessing Didia, has stated that graduates of the university will be trained to provide employment.
Didia, who stated this during the 35th matriculation ceremony of the university which took place at the Convocation Arena, in Port Harcourt, said this was in line with the objective of university education.
“A critical objective of university education is to produce graduates who are found worthy in character and learning.
“RSUST of the present times has put emphasis on the functionality of the courses. That is why we are running an entrepreneurial university to give students the required skills to be independent.
“In other words, our graduates will be employment providers, instead of employment sector,” he said.
He, therefore, urged the matriculating students to take both their entrepreneurial and major courses seriously.
The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity to explain that students were admitted into some new programmes in the university.
The courses include Geology, Plant Science and Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Information and Library Sciences, and Annual and Environmental Sciences.
