FG Assures Kaduna Airport Users Of Adequate Protection
Due to the planned
temporary closure of the Abuja Airport, the Federal Government has assured of adequate security for passengers that would be using Kaduna Airport during the closure of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport for the repairs of its runway.
Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, gave the assurance in Abuja when the Deputy British High Commissioner, Harriet Thompson, paid him a courtesy visit.
Sirika disclosed that the airport would be closed for six weeks between February and March, 2017 to allow Julius Berger carry out major repairs on the runway.
He also told the British envoy that the closure was to let the badly damaged airport runaway to be reconstructed within the period.
The Minister also explained that the runaway would still be put to use while the work was going on, adding that the six weeks closure has to take advantage of the dry season to reconstruct the mid section of the runway.
According to him, Government has put in place adequate arrangement to provide buses to convey passengers to Abuja or to the railway station, depending on the choice of the passengers involved.
Sirika also assured of robust security arrangement for the passengers which, according to him, will include the police, customs and the Civil Defence operatives that will provide escort for passengers from Kaduna to Abuja during the period of closure.
He said that the Kaduna airport being the closest airport to the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja would be used as alternative airport during the period.
