DISCO Loses 96 Poles To PH Rainstorm

As individuals and corporate organizations continue to count their losses over the Monday evening rain which caused huge damages in Port Harcourt and its environs, authorities of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) says about 96 high tension poles belonging to the firm were destroyed.
The Spokesman of the company, John Onyia, told The Tide Wednesday that apart from the damaged poles, other associated materials like 150mm aluminum conductors spanning over 32,000 metres, several cross arms, among others were also destroyed.
As a result of the development, a cross section of Port Harcourt metropolis has been thrown into darkness.
He said: “In the wake of the loss, five 33 KV and four 11KV feeders namely; Borikiri 33KV, Rainbow 33 KV, Choba 33 KV, Rumuolumeni 33 KV and UST 33 KV were affected.
“Others on 11 KV were Rumuomoi, Federal, Wokoma and Water Lines”.
In his own reaction to this unfortunate situation that culminated to loss of supply to the affected areas, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Jay McCoskey appealed to the residents to exercise patience, while the damaged poles were being repaired.
McCoskey assured that the management would do everything possible to ensure early restoration of power supply.
The PHED CEO who expressed regret that the company was facing such a loss at this moment, due to natural disaster said, “but I can guarantee that supply will be restored to the affected areas, because we have started sourcing for the materials to replace the damaged poles and other accessories”.
