Buhari Tasks Women On Higher Political Offices
Women in the country
have been challenged to brace up and aspire more for higher elective political offices in order to deliver their best to develop and change Nigeria for the better.
President Muhammadu Buhari gave the charge in a goodwill message at the just concluded One-day Summit organized by Women Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment in Africa (WAELE/ARCEFA) on African Women Economic Empowerment and Political Participation held at the Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Abuja.
President Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Alhassan, urged women to always make themselves available to participate in politics, noting that women play pivotal role in home management and should extend such prowess to the political arena in order to change the face of politics in Nigeria.
The President assured of his administration’s commitment to give more women the opportunity to serve in different capacities, emphasizing that various empowerment initiatives including soft loans have already been put in place to assist women in Agriculture from the Bank of Agriculture, Bank of Industry, promotion of small scale industries, skills acquisition, among others.
In her remark, Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Effiom Archibong reminded women of the critical role they play in political campaigns leading to election of men into key offices and tasked them to refrain from being dancers and singers at political rallies to aspire for higher positions of authority in the nations polity in order for them to contribute meaningfully to nation building.
Archibong lauded the Founder and President of WAELE/ARCEFA, Otunba Basirat Nahibi for her enormous sacrifices towards women empowerment and emancipation in the past, pointing out that the several empowerment and social emancipation as well as entrepreneurship initiatives of WAELE/ARCEFA across Africa has made tremendous impact on the women folk.
She praised the positive posture of Governor Ben Ayade concerning women empowerment, noting that more women than ever before, have been given opportunity to serve under the current dispensation.
The President and Founder of Women Advancement for Economic and Leadership Empowerment in Africa (WAELE/ARCEFA), Otunba Basirat Nahibi, expressed delight at the turnout of dignitaries, resulting in a huge success for the event and charged women to rise up to the stack reality currently facing women across Africa while pledging to do more through the organisation in the years ahead.
Goodwill messages were received from the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, represented by Senator Abiodun Olujimi, former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’abba, who was Chairman of the occasion, among others.
