‘Why We Endorse PDP’
The people with disability have vowed to continue to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ensure that the party wins all the remaining seats at the national and state legislature in the forthcoming rerun elections in the state due to the execellent performance of its state chairman, Felix Obuah and Governor Nyesom Wike.
Mr David Gbarato who stateted this last Wednesday when a group of persons with special needs commonly called “disabled people” paid a condolence visit to the Chairman of Rivers’ PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah, over the death of his beloved father, Elder Bethel C. Obuah.
According to him, the move was necessitated by “the fact that the late Elder Obuah was a helping hand to many of us in Rivers State and beyond. His charitable disposition knew no bound, hence, our resolution to do the needful if we should not see ourselves as ungrateful persons”.
Gbarato commended the party Chairman for his sustained effort at ensuring that Rivers State witnesses purposeful ledership anchored on good governance and participatory democracy.
“Unlike previous administrations, persons with disabilities have never had it so good. For example, the PDP government in Rivers State has declared that all persons with disabilities who are graduates and willing to work in the civil service should be given automatic employment. This is a standing order placed on the shoulders of the Head of Service to implement. So far, about 30 persons have been employed. But more importantly, this development has motivated most of us to seek for admission in tertiary institutions. More than 50 persons with disabilities in Rivers State are presently pursuing admission in one university or the other”, he said
He explained that the pronouncement by the Governor had made both members of PDP and APC to benefit from this window. In like manner, both Rivers and Non-Rivers have been employed and are working in various government Ministries, Departments and Agencies. I make bold to say that this government dwells with Rivers people, especially the down-trodden.
“As if that was not enough, Governor Wike went ahead to appoint a person with disability as a Special Adviser on Disability Matters. This is the first time we are having such a position since the creation of Rivers State.”
