The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, says he doesn’t have any quarrel with the police authorities in the state as painted by the media.

He made the revelation while speaking at a phone-in programme organised by Silverbird Communications in Port Harcourt at the weekend.

Wike, who defended his criticism of the police in the past weeks over what he described as police bias and compromise, insisted that police should be neutral and their play statutory role of ensuring a conducive atmosphere for the elections.

He said, “We are in good terms with the police but the only problem I have is their attitude during elections,” while explaining that some senior police officers are bent on frustrating government security plans due to their association with the opposition.

The governor reiterated that his administration was poised to give the police and other security agencies the necessary support and logistics to do their work, recalling that over six armoured vehicles, over 100 patrol vans, including other assistance have been given to the security agencies since his administration assumed office.

Commenting on the success of the just concluded Amnesty programme to ex-militants and cultists, the Rivers State governor stated that since after the exercise the state has enjoyed peace and now investors have started coming back due to the peace.

“So many companies are coming back to the state and most of the investors are telling us they are seeing the level of hard-work you people are doing”, Wike declared.

Already, he noted that the state revenue has improved.

Wike said soon rehabilitation of those who embraced the government amnesty programme will begin with trainings and scholarships adding that, “but we are not giving a dime to anybody”.

He also explained government achievements in education stating that with the reviving of boarding school system with the pilot scheme in the three Senatorial Districts at Rumuokwuta Girls Secondary, Birabi Memorial Grammar, and Nyemoni Grammar School, adding “We don’t believe in building and abandoning, and at the end of the day, have nothing to show”.
