Stakeholder Hails RSG Over Roads Construction

A retired Director, in the Rivers State Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Fred Nwokocha, says the recent construction of some major roads in Etche Local Government Area of the state has aided in the evacuation of farm produce from the area to other parts of the state and even beyond.

Nwokocha who stated this in a telephone interview with The Tide said, hitherto, farmers had a big challenge in moving their produce to other parts of the sate for sale.

The former Director of Forestry in the Ministry explained further that the area which is noted for large production of cassava, yam, plantain and other cash crops amongst others in the state suffered a lot in the past, farmers fought the challenge of preservation of their produce.

Describing the Egwi Afara Mba-Obite Roads as one of the best in the area, the forestry expert said farm produce were moved on daily basis through the road.

He also noted the Chokocho to Umuechem Junction Road is another milestone that would in no small measure help farmers move freely both to and from their farms.

While hailing the present state government in its efforts in roads construction in the LGA, he however called on it to extend the roads construction to Igbo-Etche, Okoroagu, Umuanyagu and Odogwa amongst others in order to alleviate sufferings of farmers there.

He explained that farmers in the said areas were having a hard time, even as he expressed the hope that the state government would soon come to their aid.
