Wike Warns Ogonis Against Crooked Politicians
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has advised Ogoni people not to be deceived by politicians who spent eight years in office, but only littered the Ogoni landscape with uncompleted projects, sited for political reasons.
Wike spoke at Bane in Khana Local Government Area during the thanksgiving service to mark the 50th birthday of Chief Gregory Bariledum Nwidam of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.
The governor was represented by his Chief of Staff, Engineer Chukwuemeka Woke.
The governor noted that the projects being executed by his administration in Ogoni communities are geared towards revamping the economy of the area and empower the people.
He cited the Saakpenwa-Bori road, the Kpopie-Bodo road, the rehabilitation of Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Maria High School, Bane, and the upgrade of the General Hospital, Bori as a zonal hospital.
He said that the Ogoni people should be careful with politicians who played ignoble roles in the death of Ken Saro-Wiwa, only to turn around to use his name for politics.
“Nobody should take us back to the dark days. Amaechi left uncompleted projects. We are in a new era with key projects to lift Ogoni people. That is why the Ogoni people should come forward on December 10 and tell them that they have not forgotten.
“Those who never supported Ken Saro-Wiwa when he was alive should not come forward to quote him at political rallies”, the governor said.
He stated that the present administration will continue to execute pro-people projects in line with available resources.
While congratulating Chief Gregory Nwidam on his birthday and coronation, he described him as an honest politician, a trustworthy man, and a man of character whom the present administration has confidence in.
In his speech, Chief Gregory Nwidam thanked God for attaining 50, promising to continue to do things that are delightful to God.
He lauded the governor for his contribution to his life and urged him to complete the State School, Bane abandoned by former governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Earlier at the thanksgiving service, the Parish Priest of Saint Dominic’s Catholic, Bane, Rev Father Cyril Inam Kabaka called on the people to always live in harmony with one another and let go of things that are inimical before God and mankind.
