Wike Approves Cars For Rivers Judges

The Rivers State Government, says approval has been given for the purchase of official vehicles for judges in the state.

The state Governor, Barr. Nyesom Wike disclosed this while speaking during the special court session held at the State Judiciary Auditorium to mark the opening of the 2016/2017 Legal Year and re-dedication service recently.

Governor Wike said the gesture was based on the request made by the state Chief Judge as well as to end the transportation challenges faced by the judges in the state.

The state chief executive averred that his administration would continue to provide a healthy environment that would enable judges discharge their constitutional responsibilities with regards to their oath of office.

He stated that the judiciary must be supported and allowed to be independent adding that intimidating the judiciary arm of government does not portend good to the country’s democracy. Governor Wike used the opportunity to condemn the attempt by unknown individuals to arrest the state chief judge adding that he had urged the security agents in the state who had feigned ignorance about the attempt, to ensure that the perpetrators of the act were unravelled in other to ascertain the reasons for such action.

He lauded the state Chief Judge, Justice Adama I. Iyayi-Lamikanra for her selfless and dedicated leadership styles in the state judiciary and assured that the state government would continue to assist the judiciary to promote qualitative justice administration in the state.
