The outgoing National President of the Niger Delta Students Union (NDSU), Comrade Bariture Ngbee, has called on the Federal Government to include his members in the ongoing peace talks between her and stakeholders representing some militant groups from the Niger Delta region.

Ngbee made the request while chatting with newsmen in Owerri, the Imo State capital, after the conclusion of the NDSU’s annual conference.

He stressed the importance of such inclusion in the actualization of a lasting peace in the oil producing region of the Niger Delta, noting that militants from the zone would likely accept peaceful resolutions.

He affirmed that the formation of the Niger Delta Students Union took place during the amnesty era of late President Umaru Yar’Adua, which has helped in various ways in the maintenance of peace and harmony in Nigeria in general and Niger Delta region in particular.

The outgoing NDSU leader used the avenue to advise the newly elected officers of the Niger Delta Students Union at the Heroes’ Square, Owerri, to focus more attention on their studies.

The newly elected officers of the Niger Delta Students Union, who emerged from the election in Owerri include Ifom Daniel (president), Eke Ifeanyi (secretary general), Edegbe Amarachi (PRO), Ekeadi Deborah (vice president, South-East), Ike Emmanuel (vice president, Administration), Akintunde Babatunde (vice president, South-West), Inyang Ekemini, director of gender, Bekky (Senate president), Gift Elemor, director of socials, Agbala Michael (treasurer), and Okpeleye Benjamin, director of transport.

All the leaders unanimously resolved to move the organisation to the next level at the end of their administration.

It could be recalled that the association’s annual conference is a rotational, with Imo State hosting this year.
