Against reports that
the exercise put together by the Federal Government to clean-up Ogoniland in Rivers State was a scam, President of KAGOTE, Dr Peter Medee, has said that beyond the sincerity of the Federal Government to the clean-up, the funds for the programme which environmental experts say will take 30 years have been made available.
KAGOTE is the umbrella body of the elected elite from Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme, the four Ogoni local government areas in Rivers State, and its President spoke just as his kinsmen last Wednesday, marked the Ogoni Heroes Day, a day set aside to remember Ken Saro-Wiwa and other Ogoni leaders killed by the Federal Government on November 9, 1995.
Medee, a senior Economics lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, told newsmen in Port Harcourt, that the Federal Government was now putting finishing touches to all the processes involved to receive the funds from the donors.
