A United States based
technology company, Microsoft, and Information Security of Africa Nigeria (ISSAN), have joined forces to raise cyber security awareness in wake of current global cyber threats.
The President, ISSAN, Mr. David Isiavwe said this at a public function recently in Lagos State.
He said last month was declared as cyber security month all over the world to engage with consumers in order to raise cyber security awareness.
Isiavwe hinted that cyber attackers are getting more refined such that the number of days it takes to detect one has increased.
According to him, it has increased from 58 days three years ago to 200 days now.
He said the cyber attackers have devised new ways to successfully attack individuals and organisations, saying that Nigeria loses N128 billion yearly.
Also speaking, a cyber security architect, Mr Erdal Ozkaya, noted that cyber crime was no longer a hubby, but has grown to a bigger business.
In his views, he said addressing the situation requires a new approach due to the evolvement of security threats over the time.
Ozkaya pointed out that Microsoft will continue to innovate in a bid to enhancing its security posture with different products and applications.
He also hinted that a lot of architectural changes have been made in windows 10, with an intent to check attacks from cyber criminals.
The Director, Banking and Payments System, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Dipo Fatokun pointed out that cyber crime has become the most discussed subject matter both at homes and offices.
Fatokun, who spoke through Mr. Musa Jimoh, blamed the development on technology, saying that it has increased criminal intrusion into the system.
However, he has expressed hope that the current discussions in cyber crime would proffer lasting solution to the nagging issue surrendering cyber attacks.
