The Niger Delta Network
Advancement Programme (NDNAP), has commended the Federal Government for the new management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) led by the Managing Director, Mr Nsima Ekere.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO), which is committed to the dousing of tension through poverty alleviation and development of the region, said the reorganisation of the commission would put it in good stead to effectively discharge its core mandate.
In a statement in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, leaders of the group, including the President General, Hon. Al-Mustapher Emem Edoho; Secretary General, Hon. Iboro Ekpo; the Director of Finance, Comrade Jubril Uwem Edukere, and others, commended the choice of Ekere, saying “he has sufficient experience to turn around the fortunes of the region through the NDDC”.
Others include Hon. Enyinna Enyina, Director of Public Affairs; Elder Emmanuel Okpodighe, Director of Empowerment; Comrade Edoho J. Edoho, Direcor of Social Welfare; Hon. Christopher Ekpo, and Director of Protocol, Mr. Aweighe Ebitu and Director of Youth Affairs.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has made a good choice for the people of Akwa Ibom State, the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as a whole. We have no doubt in his ability to steer the Commission in line with its core mandate of developing the region and the people”, Edoho, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues said.
According to Edoho, the new management should work towards spreading the dividends of democracy to cover the nine Niger Delta States by fixing core infrastructures like roads, electricity, water, scholarship and job creation.
“As a consummate public administrator, trusted and patriotic technocrat, we are confident that you will not betray the trust of the people of Niger Delta and the Federal Government.
“We implore you to be fair to all manner of persons and States in the region so as not tarnish your hard-earned reputation and integrity you have built over the years in public service”, Edoho added.
While pledging to rally the youths of Niger Delta to support the commission’s quest to develop the region, the group urged Ekere to churn out people-oriented programmes in agriculture, micro credit and entrepreneurial schemes.
He noted that this would go a long way towards stemming the embers of youths’ restiveness and militancy that have combined to cripple oil and gas development in the region.
“A peaceful Niger Delta will enhance speedy socio-economic development that will take Nigeria out of recession”, he stressed and enjoined well meaning Nigerians for accelerated development in the region.
