Church Takes Nigeria’s Challenges To God

No fewer than 9,000 Angli
can Church faithful in Awka in Anambra State held a prayer rally for God’s intervention in Nigeria’s challenges.
Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra said at the rally organised by the Province of Nigeria Anglican Communion that Nigeria presently needed prayers to survive its challenges.
Obiano, who was represented by the state’s Head of Service, Mr Harry Udu, said that Nigerians were facing a lot of difficulties at this period.
“If there is anything the state and indeed the country needs now, it is prayers.
“The present economic recession, the increased kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities in the country have brought untold hardship to the people,’’ he said.
The governor said that his government had recently introduced an economic package to cushion the effect of the recession on residents and paid workers’ salary promptly.
Similarly, the Bishop of Awka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alexander Ibezim, told the faithful that a holistic prayer rally was instituted two years ago to bring Anglican faithful to seek the face of God.
“As a Church, we are here to pray for our state and its leaders as well as to take stock of the ongoing year.
“We have come as a body of Christ to thank Almighty God for all the successes we have registered in this year as individuals and as families.
He noted that the prayer rally was significant because it was a miracle that most Nigerians were still alive in the face of acute hunger, inflation, scarcity of money and material things.
“Our God indeed liveth. He is ever faithful, merciful and caring.
“He has spared our lives from deadly diseases which are the hallmark of economic recession and we are hopeful that our country shall survive this in the shortest possible time,’’ Ibezim said.
In his sermon, another cleric, Bishop Henry Okeke of Mbammiri Diocese Anglican Communion urged the faithful to embrace prayers to God in the country’s present situation.
“There is nothing as good as praying in the will of God. All we need now is the boldness and service to God in prayers.
“We should place the word of God above all things, there should be no compromise.
“We need to use prayers where our powers cannot reach. Prayer is the platform where we tell the world where we stand, believe, and proclaim our God.
“The rally is for prayers, it is to steer, welcome, and encourage us to pray. It is a time of building up the body of Christ in the province,’’ Okeke said.
