Buguma, Abonnema, Ikwerre Agog …As Wike Flags Off Roads, Hospitals
The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has declared that his administration will transform the secondary healthcare sector of the state as a means of improving the living standard of the people.
The governor said that the state government resolved to revive the secondary healthcare facilities because they were abandoned for over two decades.
He spoke last Monday in Abonnema in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area and Buguma in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, where he flagged-off the rehabilitation of the General Hospital, Abonnema and General Hospital, Buguma.
The governor said that his administration was bringing healthcare back to the people, pointing out that for decades, people from Buguma and Abonnema have been forced to travel all the way to Port Harcourt to access quality healthcare.
He said, “the condition of these hospitals will make anyone cry. What we are doing is to rehabilitate the hospitals, upgrade the facilities and ensure that people from Buguma and Abonnema get quality healthcare”.
The governor noted that his administration has already completed work at the Obonnema-Abonnema Link Road in Akuku-Toru, about to complete the rehabilitation of the Nyemoni Grammar School and the Abonnema Ring Road.
The governor stated that work will start on the reconstruction of Buguma Internal Roads in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, while the drainage of Buguma Town will be completed.
He added the administration has also awarded contract for the sand-filling of Abalama in Asari-Toru Local Government Area.
The governor said: “The people of Asari-Toru and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas deserve the best. That is why we have come here to flag off the rehabilitation of these two important hospitals”.
The governor added that after the upland development in the two local government areas, more projects will be completed in the Oceania area.
In his remarks, Commissioner of Health, Dr Theophilus Odagme, said that the state government for the first time in over three decades will improve facilities at the hospitals.
Also, Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has flagged off the reconstruction of the Airport-Ipo-Omademe-Ozuoha road to the agricultural heartland of Ikwerre Local Government Area .
The governor , also Tuesday , flagged off the rehabilitation of General Hospital , Isiokpo aimed at providing quality healthcare services to the people of the area.
Performing the flag off of the road, Governor Wike said it was unfortunate that the immediate past governor who hails from the area could not construct the road.
He said: “Those who produce what we eat in the cities must be given a sense of belonging . That is why we are here today to commence the construction of this all important roads.
“We are here to wipe away the tears of the people. The former governor had the opportunity for eight years to construct this road which is in his home LGA, but neglected it.
“In the next five months, I will be back to commission the road. Government must be relevant to the populace “.
At the General Hospital , Isiokpo, Governor Wike said that the rehabilitation will be completed in record time , with modern health facilities installed.
Governor Wike directed the contractor to rehabilitate the General Hospital in line with approved specifications and timelines .
The governor also announced the construction of Isiokpo Internal Roads and the Rumuji-Iba-Isiokpo road .
He urged the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area to vote all PDP candidates in the forthcoming Legislative re-run elections as a means of consolidating.
In his remarks , Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area , Mr Samuel Nwanosike assured the governor that the people of the area would vote massively for PDP candidates during the rerun elections .
He said that no level of intimidation would sway the people from the PDP.
State Commissioner of Works , Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu said the road is a critical economic road. He noted that its reconstruction would empower the people .
Also speaking , State Health Commissioner , Dr Theophilus Odagme said the rehabilitation of the General Hospital in , Isiokpo is part of Governor Wike’s comprehensive upgrade of 13 General Hospitals left to rot by Amaechi administration.
