RVHA Urges Executive, Legislative Synergy
The Rivers State House of
Assembly has called for Cooporation between the legislature and other organs of government, especially the executive and the judiciary.
This was contained in a communique read by the leader of the House Hon. Martin Amaewhule and signed by the Speaker Rt Hon. Dabortorudima at the end of the three-day retreat held in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom.
While reading the communiqué, Amaewhule said that the Assembly was empowered by the Constitution to make laws for proper governance of the state.
He requested lawmakers of the 8th Assembly to be more committed to the process of law-making to ensure effective legislation to support the developmental vision of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
According to the communique, the executive and legislature must work in synergy, if the state must grow its economy.
The communique canvassed for a more comprehensive standing order of the House to be developed in tandem with what is obtained at the National Assembly to encourage members to come up with private bills as critical stakeholders in the business of lawmaking in the state.
The Assembly also resolved to develop a constituency relation strategy and regularly interface by opening of constituency offices, responding to the calls and needs of constituents in the state.
The Assembly also resolved to be complying with the rules of debate, bearing in mind that the legislature is a solemn assembly.
The Assembly further recommended that the House rules would be strengthened in such a way that it will never be compromised with any lawmaker and noted that non-compliance to rules usually resulted to rancour in some State Assemblies in the country.
