RSG To Fete Rivers Utd ’,Morrow
Rivers United will be
feted by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike tomorrow after they qualified for next year’s CAF Champions League as runners-up in the Nigeria league.
United finished second on the table with 60 points from 36 matches behind champions Rangers, who recorded 63 points, and both teams will feature in the 2017 Champions League.
It was a feat pulled off at the first time of asking following the formation of the club on February 19, 2016.
The reception ceremony at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt with sports commissioner Boma Iyaye revealing that it will be used to honour the heroes who have done the state proud.
“The state is planning a reception for the team and everything is being put in place to see that it is a success,” Iyaye.
“Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt did remarkably well in a very short period of existence and the feat achieved has not gone unnoticed by the Rivers State Government.
“The Government will use the ceremony to recognise the success of the team.”
Responding on behalf of players and officials of the club, general manager Okechukwu Kpalukwu thanked the Rivers State Government for the massive support which made it possible for the side to secure a ticket to next season’s prestigious Caf Champions League.
