Rivers Hosts Anti-Recession Summit, Oct 26
Plans have been concluded to organize a one-day economic Summit in Port Harcourt to sensitize the public on how to prosper in the present economic recession.
According to the Convener of the Summit, Rev. Godswill Keenam, a US-based Cleric and entrepreneur the summit tagged a “Day of hope” will he held on October 26th at Agip Staff Club, GRA, Port Harcourt.
He targeted 400 participants, who are expected to take advantage of the event to turn around their economic fortune.
Keenam, who spoke with The Tide in an interview in Port Harcourt, said, experts in various fields, will be on ground to teach the participants, practical approaches towards addressing their economic challenges.
The convener, who is a member of Nigeria in the Diaspora Organisation, (NIDO), disclosed that Mortgage companies, banks, and Micro Credit institutions will also be present at the summit to render special incentives and packages to the participants.
He pointed out that the programme was a grassroots-oriented project, billed to touch the lives of the downtrodden masses and promote enterprise development in the society.
According to the convener, the target of the “Partnership scheme” was to empower 5,000, people to be economically independent.
He said the present economic recession in Nigeria was an opportunity to engage our sense of enterprise and creativity, and recommended that people should embrace farming and not depend on white collar jobs alone.
He posited that economic recession and financial crisis facing the country can only be addressed through better economic planning and practical engagement of the citizenry in productive endeavours.
Keenam also called on corporate organizations to be sensitive and proactive in delivering their Corporate Social Responsibilities to the society.
