PDP Leadership Tussle: Appeal Court Begins Hearing In PH
The Appeal Court sit
ting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday commenced hearing of the appeal suit bordering on the leadership tussle in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between Senator Ahmed Markafi-led caretaker committee and Amodu Sheriff led faction.
The Appeal Court however, adjourned the matter to November 22, 2016 based on what it described as improper service by the parties involved .
The Court of Appeal also directed the Counsel in the matter to ensure proper services and exchange of all the process as well as serve the Inspector-General of Police before the next adjourned date.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the court session, counsel to Senator Ahmed Markafi, Lamikara Oladeji (SAN) said he would comply to court directives, adding the was ready to argue the matter.
Also speaking, Counsel to Amodu Sheriff, Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) said it was due to factionalisation that brought up the issues of whom to serve or no,t adding that they would abide by the court’s directive.
It would be recalled that two separate Federal High Courts in Abuja and Port Harcourt of the same coordinate jurisdiction had in the wake of the crisis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) given conflicting judgments which came under public condemnation.
While the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Okon Abang ruled that Amodu Sherift was the authentic party chairman of PDP the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt presided by Justice Liman, however, ruled that Senator Ahmed Markafi was the duly elected chairman of the party having emerged from legally constituted convention of the party held in Port Harcourt.
