NAFDAC Plans World- Class Lab In Owerri
The National Agency for
Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has announced its readiness to establish a world-class laboratory for South-East geopolitical zone in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The Chairman, House Committee on Health, House of Representatives, representing Ehime-Mbano Local Government Area, Hon Chike Okeafor, said this during a free medical treatment organised in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, the NAFDAC Acting Director, Yetunde Oni, assured that soon the proposed facility would be provided to serve all the people from the zone and promote good health, as well as help solve the problem of fake food and drug products.
Okeafor, in his speech, intimated NAFDAC of Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s provision of a suitable site at new Owerri for the structure, assuring the agency of the readiness of the Imolites to protect and secure the facility, when completed.
The member, who was elected under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC), used the programme to unfold his scorecard since assumption of duty to his people of Ehime, Obowo and Ihitte-Uboma Local Government Areas.
He also noted his role in facilitating the elevation of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, to a University Teaching Hospital to complement the health services of other federal health facilities within the zone.
He promised to be a strong voice consistently for his people, and called for their support, stressing the contributions of NACA, SACA, NAFDAC, F.M.C – Owerri, and UNTH, Enugu, in the area of drug donations and the success of the free medical programme.
