INEC Gets Knocks Over Rerun Polls

Stakeholders in Rivers
State have expressed worry over the continued delay by the Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) to schedule a date for the legislative rerun election in some parts of the state.
INEC, they alleged was tactically delaying the rerun election to perfect its plan with All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the rerun election in the state.
Speaking to newsmen in Port Harcourt at the weekend, the Peoples Democratic Party (PD) House of Assembly candidate for Bonny Constituency in Rivers State, Hon. Abiye Pepple regretted that the delay was denying the areas affected the presence of government in terms of development and full representation.
He said the people of Bonny like other areas affected by the aborted rerun election of March 19, 2016 have been denied their right to speak in both National and State Assemblies for nearly two years of the present administration.
Pepple called on the Federal Government to direct INEC to conduct the rerun election in this October as earlier announced by the Commission.
Also speaking on the delay to hold the rerun election, a community leader, Chief Samuel Blessing Enene called on INEC to conduct the election in the remaining parts of the State, stressing that the pendency of the rerun poll was posing security challenges in the State.
