Heavy Flooding Returns To Market Junction

Heavy flooding has
returned to Market Junction along the Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road after few months of respite.
The Tide learnt that, the situation was occasioned by a heavy downpour last Tuesday.
The situation, The Tide further learnt led to traffic congestion along that busy part of the Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road, thereby forcing many vehicles to pass through Rumuomasi to First Bank. It would be recalled that, the Rivers State Government has awarded contracts for the de-flooding of both Market Junction and St John’s axis of the Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road.
However, motorists who ply the road in the early hours of Tuesday said that the contractor, Julius Berger had not done proper work on the road. They said, the company had not identified the causes of flooding in that section of the Port Harcourt/Aba Express Road.
They added that Julius Berger need to properly identify the root causes of flooding in the area and proffer urgent solution to it.
A motorist, Mr Christopher Julius told The Tide that, he had to divert from Rumuomasi to First bank when he observed that vehicles which were ahead of him were finding it difficult to pass through the flood water.
Mr Julius who is a coaster bus driver commended the Rivers State Government for taking action to check the incessant flooding of the area and urged the contractor to ensure that the effort of the state government did not amount to waste of resources.
Another, respondent, Chinonye Moses expressed surprise at the return of flooding in the area, inspite of the effort of the construction firm, Julius Berger Nigeria Limited to ensure that the area is free of flood.
He, however, urged the state government to ensure that Julius Berger returned to Market Junction to continue with the work, stressing that the situation is now causing untold hardship on motorists as well as on businesses within the area.
