The Anambra State Gov
ernment has called on Nigerian engineers to collaborate with the state government in its efforts to protect the environment and arrest incessant cases of building collapse.
The State Head of Service, Mr Harry Udu made the call in an interview with newsmen in Awka.
He said that he had earlier made similar appeal to executive members of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office some weeks ago.
According to him, there is urgent need for such appeal, considering the rate of building collapse being recorded in the state lately.
Udu said that the frequent incidences of collapsed buildings in the state question the professional competence of engineers, who designed and supervised such projects.
He, therefore, called on the executives of the society to ensure that its members adhered to global best practices in project design and construction.
Udu said that the government was not unaware of the occupational hazard often encountered in line of duty of engineers but insisted that standard must not be compromised with respect for professional ethics.
The head of service said that registered engineers in the state public service would be remunerated handsomely.
He said that his office is open to receive any complain or challenges facing the society in the state.
According to him, the government must be assisted to provide a safer environment for its citizens and the chunk of the job lies on our engineers.
