Eaglets Scoop Leadership Sports Personality Award
Nigeria’s U17 team, the
Golden Eaglets, yesterday scooped the Leadership Sports Personality Award for winning the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile last year.
The Eaglets, led by coach Emmanuel Amuneke, won a record fifth U17 World Cup in Chile in November after they outscored fellow West Africans Mali 2-0 in the final.
Victor Osimhen set a new goals record of 10 goals and Kelechi Iheanacho was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition.
Both players have now signed contracts with top European clubs.
The high-profile awards ceremony organised by the Leadership newspapers in Abuja was attended by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.
