Defend Judges, Rivers CJ Urges Media

Chief Judge, Justice I.A. Iyayi-Lamikanra, has called on the media to defend judges in the country.
Justice Iyayi-Lamikanra made the call when the members of the Association of Judiciary/Crime Reporters, Rivers State branch paid her a courtesy visit in her office over the weekend.
She averred that judges are defenseless as they are prone to societal condemnation and criticisms.
According to her, judges by their professional callings do not react to public criticism, adding that only the media can rise to their defence.
She charged members of the fourth estate of the realm especially the judiciary/crime reporters to continue to defend the judges in their different media houses.
She promised to partner with the State Judiciary Press Corps to spotlight the activities of the judiciary to the members of the public, adding that her office was open for any check the press wants in order to balance their stories.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of the Judiciary/Crime Press Corps, Deacon Samuel Chinda said they were in her office to intimate her of the various challenges hindering the performance of their job in the judiciary.
Deacon Chinda listed lack of a pool office, lack of accessibility to the CJ’s office, among others as some factors limiting members of the press corps to effectively carry out their job.
The chairman of the corps while congratulating the Chief Judge on her meritorious appointment assured her of the resolve and cooperation of members of the press corps to ensure her success in her office.
