Community Solicits For Police Vehicles
The people of Igbo
Community in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, have appealed to the State Commissioner of Police, CP Francis M.Odesanya and the state government to procure operational vehicles for Umuebule Divisional Police headquarters to enable it fight crimes and other social vices in the area.
The traditional Prime Minister of Umuotube Community, Chokota Igbo, Chief Kemakolom Nwanuo made the appeal while addressing journalists in his palace over the weekend on the measures put in place to fight crimes in the area.
Chief Kemakolom, who is also the Onowu of the community said the appeal became important due to the challenges the police in the area faced in fighting crime in the area.
He stated that the unavailability of operational vehicles in the division had adversely affected the police to effectively combat crimes in the area.
According to him, the non-availability of functional vehicles in the division has made it difficult for policemen to attend to distress calls and get to the scenes of crimes on time, adding that with the nature of roads in the area, they hardly access some villages when crimes occur.
He averred that provision of new vehicles to the command would help the police to operate effectively and respond to various calls, adding that the community was prone to security challenges due to the influx of people to the area.
The Otube traditional Prime Minister used the opportunity to appeal to the state Commissioner of Police to call his men to order, adding that the police are being used by their neigbouring Rumukrushi community to intimidate and unlawfully arrest his people over an alleged land dispute which, according to him, was already in a court of competent jurisdiction.
He assured that Igbo community would continue to give the police and other security agencies in the area the needed assistance to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
