RVHA Tasks Commission On Rules
As part of measures to
tackle corruption and falsification of records, the Rivers State House of Assembly, has called on the State Civil Service Commission to ensure strict adherence to public service rules.
The House Committee Chairman on Public Complaints and Petition, Hon. Evans Bipi made the call on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, while submitting the committee’s report on the alleged wrongful retirement of a Director in the State Civil Service, Mrs Ibiere Sally Federick by the State Civil Service Commission, at the Assembly’s plenary session.
Federick recently petitioned the Head of Service and the Civil Service Commission of Rivers State to the State House of Assembly for her alleged wrongful retirement from service on the ground of age.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adam Dabotorudima had forwarded the petition to the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions for proper investigation on the alleged injustice.
While submitting the report, Bipi said the action of the Civil Service Commission on the retirement of the Director was in accordance with the public service rules 020810 and 020108 of the state civil service.
According to the report, Federick joined the state Civil Service on December 17, 1982 and submitted March 18, 1955 as her date of birth as reflected in the certificate she presented for employment.
The Committee also reported that the petitioner, Mrs Federick was wrong to present another age declaration that she was born on March 18, 1957 after 16 years of her employment.
On that note, the House Committee noted that Mrs Federick was properly retired by the Civil Service Commission on the ground of age, having regard to her service records as furnished by the commission.
The House Committee advised the retired Director to process her retirement benefit from the State Civil Service and that the State Civil Service should give Mrs Federick extension of time within which to recover the Government Quarters allocated to her and which she still occupies even after retirement.
The Committee commended both the State Civil Service Commission, the Head of Service and the retired (Director), Mrs Federick for maintaining peace and understanding on the issue.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Adams Dabortorudima adjourned the debate on the House Committee report to the next sitting of the House, saying that the House would ensure justice and fair play to both parties in the petition.
