Para-Athletics: Ekiti Association Plans Talent Hunt Competition
Head coach of Ekiti State
Para- Athletics Association, Peter Ojo, says the association will organise talent discovery competition for athletes in the state with disabilities before the end of 2016.
Ojo told newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday that the planned event was aimed at encouraging persons with disabilities to participate in sports.
“We just want to use the upcoming talent discovery competition to engage them and to encourage them to participate in sports because the stadium is open for them anytime,” he said.
He said that though the facilities needed for the event were ready, the association had not fixed the actual date and month for it due to paucity of funds.
“Currently, our programme for the event is ready but due to the financial situation of the state and individuals, we are yet to announce the date, but I am hoping that we will get a sponsor,” he said. Ojo promised ýthat as soon as the resources needed for the competition were ready, the date would be announced.
The coach stated that interested athletes in all the 16 local government areas of the state would be given the opportunity to participate. “ýIt is painful that since the beginning of the year, we have not been able to organise any competition in order to encourage Para- athletics in the state.
Ojo appealed to sports philanthropists, stakeholders, organisations and indigenes of the state to assist the association fund the competition.
