IMSIEC Boss Backs Call For Cabinet Reshuffle
The Chairman, Imo State
Independent Electoral Commision (IMSIEC), Mr Nwoha Amaechi, said that the call for a cabinet reshuffle was in order to engender innovative economic reforms.
Amaechi expressed his view while reacting to calls by some Nigerians for the removal of some ministers perceived to be incompetent.
He told newsmen in an interview in Abuja that it was imperative to engage the services of technocrats and
economic experts to proffer solutions to Nigeria’s economic recession.
”Some of the ministers need to go; even all of them, for new and better hands with experience on economic matters to take us out of this recession.
”I am not just interested in sacking for the sake of reshuffling, but my interest is in bringing in tested and trusted persons.”
The IMSIEC chairman, who was a former Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the call and immediately reshuffle his cabinet.
According to him, Nigeria has not made considerable economic progress under the watch of the present cabinet.
”We have tried the present cabinet for nearly two years now, but it has not been satisfying; therefore, we expect newer and better hands.”
Amaechi advised the government to cut down on unnecessary expenditures to eliminate what he called “fiscal frivolities”.
He further underscored the need to also cut bloated contracts and security votes to enable the government to save money.
He recalled that as Imo Assembly Speaker, he had called for the reduction of security votes and other government expenditures.
Amaechi further said that Nigerians were eager to see a new crop of experts taking over from the current ministers, to salvage Nigeria from economic recession.
