The Hope Democratic
Party (HDP) has warned politicians and political parties in Rivers State against politicising the security of lives and property in the state.
The two-time presidential candidate and leader of the party Mr Ambrose Owuru gave the warning, Saturday, while condemning the killing of Rights Activist, Barrister Ken Atsuwete in Port Harcourt.
Owuru who urged thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the activist, also warned politicians against any form of interference to enable the police unravel the mystery behind the killing of the late lawyer in the state.
He called on politicians and political parties to sink their political differences and support the government of the day to safeguard lives and property in the state.
According to him, politics is all about governance for security of lives and properties as well as development for the people and not a field to show power and might against political oppositions and electorate in the society.
The party leader blamed the growing insecurity in the country to the strong division among the political class, saying that the country will only win the war against crime and corruption, if the political class and the leaders begin to have mutual political will to see governance as selffless service for the people, irrespective of the party affiliation in the community.
Owuru used the medium to caution political gladiators against unguarded utterances, noting that most of the political crises experienced in the country were caused by politicians through media houses.
He said, if the media begin to check some unguarded comments from politicians seeking political relevance in the system by all means through the media, political crisis would reduce drastically.
