Group To Assist Schools With ICT

Indigenes of Abia State in
South Africa are to partner the state government in promoting Information Communication Technology(ICT) in schools in the state.
The new President-General of the Abia Union in South Africa, Mr Chima Umealo, told our correspondent on phone from Johannesburg that plans were also underway to establish an ICT park.
The initiative, he said, would facilitate the linking of some secondary schools in the state through e-learning platforms.
“ The Union will send iPads to a selected secondary schools in Umuahia to kick-start the project.
“ We have met with the state government. We are willing to assist our state government to promote ICT in our schools,” he said.
Umealo said that the group would also assist the government to drive development in the state.
He, however, said that the priority of the new executive of the Union was to give Abia people in South Africa a good image.
“ Our vision is to give our people in South Africa a good image. If there is misconception about our people, it will be difficult to promote any project.
“ Fortunately, our people in South Africa are made up of professionals in various endeavours such as academics, engineering as well as sports.
“ It is also on record that we are employers of labour in this country,” he said.
Umealo further stated that Abia people would work with other Nigerians resident in South Africa to promote the image of the country.
