Ahmed Elmohamady has talked up Hull City’s positive start to the season in the Premier League.
The Tigers sit comfortably in the top half of the table after claiming seven points from their first four fixtures.
That’s seven points more than most pundits thought Hull would have, with the newly-promoted side tipped to struggle in the English top flight.
However, they proved their critics wrong right from the word go, beating Premier League champions Leicester on the opening day.
Another win over Swansea City was followed by a narrow loss against Manchester United and a 1-1 draw with fellow promoted side Burnley on Saturday.
“Before we start everyone wrote us off and we kept working hard and training. Everyone thought we had a bad pre-season, not at all. We all played well in the friendlies and pre-season games,” Elmohamady is quoted by KingFut.
“Everybody wrote us off against Leicester, we were happy after the game after we won and we showed everyone how good we are.
“The thing is when everyone says Hull won’t win a game or Hull won’t get a point and you hear all these things, you go to the game having a challenge.
“After you win you enjoy it because you disappoint everyone and that’s what we did.”
The Egyptian international also praised stand-in coach Mike Phelan for his work behind the scenes and is hopeful he will be appointed permanently.
“Mike Phelan isn’t a newcomer for us nor the fans. It is good to have someone like him, he knows all the players, he knows the place,” said Elmohamady.
“He gives us his experience. We all like him, we want him to stay with us. Of course it is not our decision but we hope.”
