Cleric Harps On Civic Dev Projects

A cleric, Rev.
Ifeabyi Okonkwo, has urged Christians to participate actively in community and civic development projects.
Okonkwo made the call while delivering a homily at the Anglican Church of Ascension, Achara Layout, Enugu recently.
In his sermon with the theme: “God and People Chronicle Your Deeds and Achievements’’, the cleric noted.
He noted that the country had failed to move forward due to people not playing their roles as expected.
“Nigerians must learn to participate in community and civic development work for the collective progress of all the members of the community.
“As a Christian, you should participate regularly and compulsorily in monthly environmental sanitation of the community.
“It is high time we identify with all communal programmes meant to make the environment better and to improve our health and well being.
“It is wrong to sit in your house or rented apartment while others are out there doing the sanitation for you.
“This is one aspect of the change we need in the country; for us to see volunteerism as an act of service to God and humanity,’’ Okonkwo said.
He also advised Christians to contribute financially to community projects, adding that “this attitude of not seeing anything good in what others are doing for the common good of others should be stopped”.
