Check Resurgence Of Sea Piracy …Banigo Tasks Security Agents
The Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has enjoined security operatives in the state, particularly the Marine Police, to check the renewed activities of pirates on sea routes in the state, especially the Port Harcourt-Bonny axis.
Banigo, in a statement through her Press Secretary, Paul Damgbor, said recent activities of pirates on the waterways have continued to undermine riverine transportation, which is critical to the economy of the state.
The deputy governor stressed the urgent need for security agents operating on the waterways to beef up their surveillance in order to rid the creeks of criminal elements.
She noted that although, security control was under the watch of the Federal Government, the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration will continue to support the police and other security agencies to fight crime in the state.
Banigo condemned the situation where travellers as well as businessmen and women are being dispossessed of their goods and other valuable properties, and in some cases raped, stressing that the security agents must live up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property.
The deputy governor reminded criminal elements still operating in the state to take advantage of the amnesty offer by Governor Nyesom Wike, and turn a new leaf, adding that anyone caught in the current war on criminal activities would face the full wrath of the law.
