A Port Harcourt-based
human rights activist and Lawyer, Barr Elayo Gbaraje, has accused the All Progressives Congress ( APC) – led Federal Government of being behind the postponement of Edo State governorship election.
Gbaraje who faulted the reason behind the postponement of the election yesterday in Port Harcourt said the shifting of the election on the ground of insecurity was baseless and an abuse of power.
Gbaraje accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for dancing to the tune of some individuals and the federal government, stating that INEC’s action portends serious danger ahead of the nation’s democracy.
“You can recall that president Buhari just visited Benin, the Capital City of Edo State and I believe that before a president will visit a state everything about scurity has been put in place. How come the federal government came out to shift Edo State governorship poll on the ground of insecurity after two days of the president’s visit”, he queried.
Also condemning the postponement of the election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State alleged that APC led federal government was buying time to perfect plan with INEC to rig Edo State governorship election.
The Publicity Secretary of the Party, Hon Sameul Nwanosike who stated this in an interview with the newsmen in Port Harcourt, also accused President Mohammadu Buhari for using federal might on the Electoral Commission against the wishes of the masses and other political parties in the country.
According to him, Edo State election was postponed as a result of a clear manifestation on ground that PDP would have won the postponed election.
Wanosike expressed optimism that Edo State election would be won by PDP despite any conspiracy by the INEC and APC government in the area.
