Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State says its final position on the legislative rerun election in the State would be made public this week.
The INEC resident Commissioner in Rivers State, Mr. Aniedi Ikoiwak who stated this in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, Friday hinted that a specific date for the rerun election in Rivers State depended on the outcome of the commission’s meeting with some stakeholders and political parties involved in the election.
According to him, the commission will meet this week with political parties and some stakeholders to take a final date for the legislative rerun election in the state.
Insisting that he cannot guarantee that the election fixed in October 2016 will still hold as scheduled, Ikoiwak pointed out that the commission did not give any date in the October, month.
“We only said October we did not give a date which means that there is supposed to be a meeting to decide on a date and uptill now the date has not been fixed, so it depends on what is on the table of the Commission and the reactions of those who are also involved in the election. But there would be a clearer picture on the election this coming week, the date of the election would be known”, Ikoiwak said.
The Rivers State INEC Commissioner also denied claims in some quarters of the state that the commission is planning to rig the rerun election in favour of a political party in the state.
