Visiting Rivers Angels
Football Club of Port Harcourt on Saturday in Abuja defeated hosts Capital City Doves FC 2-0 in a 2015/2016 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) fixture.
Tidesports gathered that in the Match Day 10 fixture Rivers Angels were totally in control of the game in the first half.
Mercy Amanze opened scoring in the 11th minute of the game played at the Area 3 football pitch while Ugo Njoku doubled the tally in the 40th minute.
Capital City Doves displayed a good performance in the first half but failed to utilise their scoring chances.
On resumption of the second half, both teams fought hard to score, but their efforts yielded no fruit.
Speaking after the match, the Head Coach of Rivers Angels FC, Edwin Okon said he was happy that his team won.
“I was expecting them to play better than this and to score more goals, because my players are stronger than them. I am happy they won the game, and the three points is what matters to us.
“The secret of today’s victory is discipline. Whenever we go out for any encounter, our target is to record victory and that is what my players did,” he said.
On her part, Ngozi Eze, the Head Coach of Capital City Doves, said she was happy with her team’s performance in spite of the loss.
“We played against a stronger team. My players fought well. It was unfortunate they could not utilise their scoring chances.
“But we need to go back to the drawing board and work more. I need to teach them what to do when they have the ball and what to do when the ball is with their opponents.
“However, we will do better in our next game to ensure a win,’’ she said.
