Wike Assures Firms Of Safe Environment

A security summit is un
derway in Rivers State, the Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has hinted.
He made the disclosure while playing host to the Managing Director of SAIPEM Contracting Nigeria Limited, Mr. Guido D’aloisio, in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Wike said the security summit will find ways to strengthen the state security architecture, as he assured companies and investors of safe and secure environment for them to do their businesses.
He also  assured investors and business concerns in the state that his administration will eliminate multiple taxation by next year in view  of the taxation laws already in place.
The governor  declared  that  companies  and individuals  who fail to  pay their ground  rents would have their certificates of occupancy revoked in the new revenue drive of the state government.
He noted that the Rivers State Government has reformed the taxation system with a view to enhancing her internally generated  revenue.
According  to him, the present economic downturn requires a more robust revenue generation mechanism for the funding of development projects and the maintenance of security.
While commending  Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited for its investments in Rivers State, Wike urged the firm to partner with the state government to reconstruct a major access road in the company’s host community.
He called  on the expatriates in the company to serve as ambassadors of  Rivers State in the international  community.
Responding, Managing Director of Saipem Contracting Nigeria Limited, Mr. Guido  D’aloisio commended  Wike for sustaining infrastructural development which has positively impacted on the operations of the company.
He said  that  the company  has contributed to the growth of  Nigeria and Rivers State, especially the development of the critical manpower in the oil and gas industry.
