Unemployed, 20, Charged With Theft Of Generators

A 20-year-old
unemployed, Toheeb Semiu, has appeared before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged burglary and theft of two Tiger generators valued at N24,000.
Semiu, a resident of Ebute-Metta, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Ibijoke Akinpelu, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on August 1 at about 2 a.m. at No. 202, Borno Way, Ebute -Metta, Lagos.
He said that the accused and two others broke into the premises of one Sunny Aketepe and stole his two Tiger generators valued at N24,000.
“After the accused had stolen the generators, he and his accomplices again attempted to break into the apartment of another neighbour.
“However, some residents apprehended Semiu during the act while other accomplices took to their heels.
“He was handed over to the police for interrogation with two long knives, one bar, one screwdriver, two spinners and pliers in his possession,’’ she said.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285, 305 (2) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Our correspondent reports that the accused may be sentenced to three years’ imprisonment if convicted.
The magistrate, Mrs A. F Adeeyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must not be self employed and adjourned the case till October  5 for trial.
