New president of the
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, Honour Sirawoo, has once again expressed the intention of his exco to be fully committed to the training and retraining of sports journalists in the country.
Sirawoo who in company of his executive committee addressed the Rivers State chapter of SWAN in Port Harcourt on Monday, said pressure would be put on principal officers at the state and regional levels to ensure that sports journalist are given adequate training on the rules, regulations and reportage of other sports asides football.
“We are putting so much pressure on the zonal Vice Presidents, they must work.
“We are going to see that the states organise seminars. It costs nothing.
“All it takes is to get the secretary of any of the sports get the chairman of the sport association then you put heads together.
“Where you have challenges financially, then national SWAN will help. At least from what we are trying to do now, we are convinced money will soon start coming in.
“So anywhere they have challenges we are going to see how we can help them out, he said.”
Sirawoo also took out time to appreciate his local campaign team  and the Rivers state chapter of SWAN whose total support saw him emerge the first president of SWAN from the south south.
Let me thank my local campaign team and of course all members of the chapter for their support and the extraordinary commitment they showed.
Its a thing of joy not just for me but for the chapter. At least when chapters would be mentioned that have produced presidents, Rivers chapter would be  one of those mentioned.
I am just privileged. We are all educated enough, we are all qualified enough to be president of SWAN but of course it gives me joy that Rivers state chapter has produced a president of SWAN.
