Rivers CP Visits INEC Office
In his determination to en
sure security and provision of a peaceful environment that would enable the conclusion of the re-run election in the state, the Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Francis Mobolaji Odesanya, has visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Port Harcourt with a promise to beef up more security in the area.
CP Odesanya stated this when he led the state police management team ro pay a courtesy call on the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in his office in Port Harcourt, Monday.
The State Commissioner of Police stated that his visit to the INEC headquarters in Port Harcourt was to enable him see things for himself and to access security situation to foreclose a repeat of what happened at INEC office in Bori, recently.
He stated that he would commence visitation of INCE offices across the 23 local government areas of the state to increase police surveillance in those areas and added that the police have commenced investigations into the burning of the INEC office in Bori.
He assured the INEC REC er and his team as well as the public that he would provide a conducive environment for the conclusion of all the withheld re-run elections across the state.
Earlier, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Elder Anedi A. Ikoiwak, lauded the commissioner for the visit and expressed joy that the visit would spur the commission to do more to ensure that the re-run elections are conducted in the state.
He disclosed that CP Odesanya was the first state Commissioner of Police that was visiting the commissioner’s office and added that the CP was not new with happenings in the state as he had served before in the command.
The state INEC boss while congratulating the new State Police helmsman on his appointment assured him of INEC’s resolve and commitment to ensure that the election was successful when it would be conducted.
