Police Uncover Two Corpses In Farm
The Ebonyi State Police
Command has confirmed the discovery of the corpses of a man and his wife inside a farm at Mgbalaeze-Isu, in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
The man, Chijioke Ani, 36, was found hanging in the farm, and his wife battered, in a manner locals suspected to be murder.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP George Okafor, told newsmen, yesterday, in Abakaliki, the-state capital that investigations into the cause of their death had commenced.
According to him, it was suspected that Ani killed his wife and hanged himself, maybe due to an altercation.
“The area is peaceful without any form of dispute but we would continue investigating to ascertain the cause of the couple’s death,” Okafor said.
A source in the area, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the couple were last seen by people on their way to farm, last week.
“They went to the farm but did not return, but the villagers became apprehensive, and mobilised to search for them.
“We finally found his wife, Ngozi, lying dead in her pool of blood with marks of assault on her body while Ani was later found hanging on a tree,” he said.
The source remarked that the villagers were in shock over the incident, noting that it had given room for several insinuations.
“We urge the relevant authorities to ascertain the cause of their death, and ensure that such does not repeat in the area again.
“It will take us a long time to recover from this shock because the incident is gory and unprecedented,” he said.
