The Anambra State police
command has condemned the harassment of journalists by its personnel in the state.
Its spokesperson, Mrs Nkiru Nwode, told newsmen in Awka that the command frowned at such harassment.
Nwode assured the media practitioners in the state of a healthier working relationship with the police.
“Better result will be achieved if we work harmoniously to enhance the war against criminality in the state,’’ she said.
The officer, who recently assumed duties in the state, was reacting to the reported harassment of some journalists by its personnel near the Governor’s Lodge at Amawbia.
Our correspondent reports that it took the intervention of a senior police officer before the journalists were released.
Nwode solicited the cooperation of the media with the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Sam Okaula, to enable him to excel in the task of ensuring adequate security.
One of the affected journalists told our correspondent on the condition of anonymity that he was barred from taking pictures of the vehicle involved in an accident without permission from the police personnel.
