Ogoni Clean Up: ‘Don’t Politicise Appointments’
A chieftain of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Hon Friday Nkenyii, has warned against politicisation of appointments into the Governing Council and Board of Trustees (BoT) earlier announced by Federal Government for the Ogoni clean-up in the state.
Nkenyii, who gave the warning yesterday in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, called on the Federal Government to appoint experts that can do the job effectively and not to use the appointment as a means to settle politicians in the system.
“Am appealing to Mr President Mohammadu Buhari to appoint experts as members of BoI and Governing Council because the clean-up exercise has to do with human lives and sustainability of the environment,” Nkenyii said.
The APC chieftain called on Ogoni people not to politicize developmental projects in Ogoni land irrespective of the person or political party involved.
He said politics is all about good governance and economic development, advising that the dividends of democracy should not be cristicised for political or selfish interests.
