The National
Environmental Standards Regulation and Enforcement Agency (NESREA), has urged Enugu residents to stop disposing waste into the drains.
The Coordinator of the agency in  Enugu State, Mr Tunde Adigun, gave the advice during a road walk on flood control in Enugu.
The campaign was organised by the agency in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the state ministry of environment.
Adigun said that the call had become necessary  following the frequent occurrence of flood in di fferent parts of the country in recent times.
He said that the agency was trying to sensitise the people of Enugu on how to dispose of their-waste products.
“The effect of dumping waste in the drains is that the water that should flow through the water ways is discharged onto the roads causing flooding.
“We have seen cases where flooding have taken over some homes in.Euugu even though Enugu is not along the costal lines.
“This is because some people build on water ways, stuff the drainages with waste and allow sand into the drainage channel,” he said
