Oil multinationals op
erating in Obagi Community, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have been urged to carry along landlords from the area in their dealings including contract awards.
Eze Abella Benson, the Eze-Obagi, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Benson said the inability of some oil multinationals as well as other oil servicing firms operating in the area to involve genuine landlords of host communities in awards of due contracts has led to marginalisation of some diligent landlords.
He said the development has resulted in series of complaints in his palace and stressed the need for fairness and justice, for peace and security in the area.
He said, “there is need for firms, particularly Total E &P Nigeria Limited (TEPNG) Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and others that are operating in the area to be fair in contract awards to the genuine landlords”.
The Eze-Obagi explained the imperativeness of cordial or harmonious relationship between the community and the firms and that to sustain such relationship there was urgent need to carry the landlords along.
The royal father said it was as a result of the development that an association, Umu-Okporo/Umu-Osike Oil and Gas Producing Families Landlord Con tractors Association was formed to check fraudulent persons from sidelining the real landlords.
“We have also notified appropriate organs including security agencies as this step is aimed at maintaining peace,” he said.
