Ministry, RVHA Begin Enlightenment Campaign

The Rivers State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Information and Communications are to partner in the area of effective sensitisation of the public on laws passed by the state legislature.
This was part of the resolution reached between the Ministry and the House of Assembly Committee on Information and Training, during the Committee’s oversight function to the Ministry, yesterday.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information and Training, Hon. Sam Oge, who led the delegation, said the oversight function was part of the legislative business of the State Assembly to know the functionality of the Ministry.
Oge said the visit was to seek and explore areas of collaboration towards the dispensation of transparent and accountable governance in Rivers State.
He said the collaboration between the State Assembly and the Ministry of Information and Communications, will avail the citizenry the opportunity to know the various laws passed by the Assembly and their workability.
Also speaking, a member of the House Committee on Information and Training, Hon. Okpokiri N. Okpokiri, commended the Ministry for its strides in projecting the Rivers State Government, and emphasised the need for a stronger synergy between the various, arms of government to achieve the objectives of the New Rivers Vision under Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In his remarks, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, thanked the committee for the visit, and re-stated the commitment of the Ministry towards the sensitisation of Rivers people on government policies and programmes.
Tam-George also assured the commitment of the Rivers State Government to revamp the state-owned media houses to function optimally and deliver their statutory roles.
The Commissioner pointed out that truth remains a cardinal objective of the Wike administration, and regretted the fact that the previous administration in the state was predicated on deliberate falsehood, putting a burden of credibility on the process of governance.
Tam-George, who described, Rivers State as a business and investment hub said the Wike’s administration was poised to diversify the economy of the state by opening new frontiers of economic development.
The Commissioner, cautioned against the politics of bitterness and acrimony, and urged all stakeholders to work towards achieving sustainable peace and development in the state.
